Mobile App Accessibility Testing & Audits
Mobile Accessibility: Beyond the Desktop
Mobile banking, trading, and mutual fund apps present unique accessibility challenges that go beyond standard WCAG web criteria. Touch targets, gesture controls, and platform-specific screen reader behavior create a distinct testing landscape.
Our mobile audit team tests on both Android and iOS using the same assistive technologies your users rely on: TalkBack and Switch Access on Android; VoiceOver and Voice Control on iOS.
What We Test
Screen Reader Compatibility
We verify that every screen, form field, button, and data display announces correctly with TalkBack (Android) and VoiceOver (iOS). In financial apps, this means testing portfolio values, transaction confirmations, OTP entry flows, and biometric authentication prompts.
Touch Target Sizing
Android Material Design guidelines specify 48dp minimum touch targets. Apple HIG requires 44pt. We measure every interactive element against these requirements. Common failures include compact stock tickers, small filter chips, and crowded menu items.
Gesture Alternatives
Swipe-to-delete on transactions, pinch-to-zoom on charts, and drag-to-reorder on watchlists all need single-pointer alternatives for users with motor disabilities.
Dynamic Type and Text Scaling
Financial data must remain readable and functional when users enable large text, bold text, or increased contrast settings. We test at 200% text scaling on both platforms.
Common Issues in Financial Apps
- Custom tab bars that screen readers cannot navigate
- Chart views that provide no text alternative for financial data
- Biometric authentication flows that don’t offer accessible fallbacks
- Real-time price updates that create continuous screen reader interruptions
- Complex forms that don’t preserve data when the user navigates away and returns
Platform-Specific Remediation
Our audit reports include platform-specific code guidance: SwiftUI/UIKit patterns for iOS and Jetpack Compose/XML layout fixes for Android. We don’t just identify problems — we show your developers exactly how to fix them.
For organizations that want to build internal mobile accessibility expertise, our Training Fellowship includes platform-specific workshops. For the full scope of our testing approach, review our audit methodology.
Build a mobile accessibility test plan around real tasks
A mobile accessibility audit examines whether people can complete tasks in your iOS or Android app using different ways of seeing, hearing and interacting. Start with onboarding, sign-in, finding information, making a transaction and getting help. Include error states and account recovery, where users often need clear instructions.
iOS and Android need their own checks
Review VoiceOver and TalkBack navigation on the supported platforms. Check the names and states of controls, reading order, focus after navigation, text scaling, orientation and alternatives to complex gestures. Native controls, embedded web views and custom components can behave differently even when their screens look alike.
What to provide before testing
- Test builds, supported operating system versions and the critical user journeys.
- Non-production test accounts for each relevant role, provided through an agreed secure channel.
- Details of authentication, one-time passwords and third-party payment or verification steps.
- The target standard, reporting requirements and scope of any remediation retest.
Turn findings into fixes your team can verify
Each issue should identify the app version, device or environment, reproduction steps, impact on users and expected behavior. Retest repaired components within the complete journey, including the path back from an error. Use the W3C WCAG overview to understand the standards framework and agree how it will be applied to your product.
