Accessibility audit

Also known as: Accessibility assessment

An accessibility audit is a thorough check of a website or app against a standard like WCAG, combining automated scans with expert manual testing, and reporting exactly what to fix.

In plain terms

A proper audit isn't just running a scanner. An expert tests with a keyboard and screen reader, checks every template and key user journey, and writes up each issue with its WCAG reference, how serious it is, and how to fix it. The output is a prioritised report you can hand to your developers.

Why it matters

An audit tells you where you actually stand and gives you a defensible record for regulators or clients. It's the starting point for remediation and for any VPAT or accessibility statement.

Example

An audit of a banking app finds 40 issues, ranks them by severity, and maps each to a WCAG criterion and a code-level fix.
