Remediation

Also known as: Accessibility fixes

Remediation is the work of actually fixing the accessibility problems an audit found — changing the code, content or design so the site meets the standard.

In plain terms

An audit tells you what's broken; remediation is fixing it. That might mean adding labels, correcting contrast, rebuilding a custom widget with real HTML, or retagging a PDF. The best remediation reports give developers the exact change to make, not just a description of the problem.

Why it matters

Finding issues is only half the job — until they're remediated, users are still blocked and you're still non-compliant. Retesting after fixes confirms they actually worked.

Example

Remediating a "keyboard trap" in a date picker means rewriting its focus handling so users can Tab out again, then retesting.
