VPAT

Also known as: Voluntary Product Accessibility Template, ACR

A VPAT is a standard document that reports how well a product meets accessibility standards like WCAG and Section 508 — used most often when selling to governments or large enterprises.

In plain terms

It's a template you fill in, going through each standard and stating whether your product "Supports", "Partially Supports" or "Does Not Support" it, with notes. The filled-in version is called an Accessibility Conformance Report (ACR), though people call the whole thing a VPAT.

Why it matters

Buyers — especially public bodies and big companies — ask for a VPAT before they'll purchase. An honest, well-written one builds trust; a vague or inflated one gets you disqualified once they test the product themselves.

Example

A SaaS vendor bidding for a government contract attaches a VPAT showing WCAG 2.2 AA and Section 508 conformance, with clear notes on the few areas still being fixed.
